First off, here’s a little picture of Tony and Steve in the morning – man, I LOVE drawing bedhead!

Tony as coffee addict is my friend.
Also, I went to see Tropic Thunder last night. It’s worth your eight dollars. Not surprisingly, RDJ absolutely walks away with the movie – this is his, “That’s right, bitches, I can play ANYTHING!” role. Not only does he do the blackface thing (complete with quotes from the Jefferson’s theme song), but he also plays *that* character masquerading as an Asian man (who can’t speak his own language), and under all THAT, he’s an Aussie with impossibly watery blue eyes. Seriously, imagine Jensen Ackles acting a scene in which Dean discovers that Sam has drowned in a swamp, while locked in the Impala – now imagine MORE teary-eyed than that.
Jack Black was also surprisingly hilarious as a crude actor known for fart jokes, who spends the film withdrawing from heroin. If you see this movie for one reason (other than RDJ) see it for the scene where Jack Black begs to be tied to a tree, then begs to be untied. I’m not a huge JB fan, but he did really well in this.
The weak link is the movie’s writer/director/star, Ben Stiller. He starts off well, then once he gets separated from his acting troop, dissolves into the same surreal idiotic man child role he always plays. If you like Zoolander type humor, you’ll like Stiller’s scenes. I don’t, but thankfully, every time it starts to get annoying, we go back to RDJ and Jack Black.
If you go, get there on time – you don’t want to miss the fake trailers, especially RDJ and Toby McGuire as monks in love in the Brokeback spoof, “Satan’s Alley”. One of the biggest laughs in the movie.

Date: 2008-08-18 04:56 pm (UTC)Laugh, and be horny. One of my favorite moments in the entire movie is RDJ giving this long, SUPER over the top look to Toby McGuire, in full monk outfit, his eyes two massive blue pools of tears. It's beyond hilarous. It got to the point where I started wondering, "is that an effect, or did RDJ ask to be kicked in the nuts before each take?"
It's a good movie, worth waiting for.

Date: 2008-08-18 04:17 pm (UTC)the trailer for that film made me want to pluck my eyes out. i have a huge loathing for Ben Stiller, which didn't help.
I almost started tearing up at the thought of Sam drowning in the Impala :)

Date: 2008-08-18 05:02 pm (UTC)Ben Stiller sucks in, like, 90% of his movies, and most of his antics in this film are grating, but also mostly brief. RDJ and Jack Black save the movie, and every moment they weren't on screen, I waited for them to return. I liked it, but it's not for everyone. You have to be in a silly mood.
I'm convinced Jensen Ackles realized he was destin for the screen when he discoved he had a rare condition that caused his eyes to tear up MASSIVLY everytime something dramatic happened around him. And nothing would cause that more than the double whammy loss of Sam + Impala.
Thanks so much for checking out my drawing, hon. *smishes back*

Does it make me a bad person that I'd totally pay eight dollars to see this as an actual movie, and might actually enjoy it even more than I imagine I will Tropic Thunder? (which I'm glad to hear is funny and good - I was braced for utter cringe-worthy horror when I first heard about the blackface thing).

Date: 2008-08-18 11:18 pm (UTC)I would see Satan's Alley for RDJ, but the "preview" did not make it look like a good movie by any stretch of the imagination. Tropic Thunder is pretty good, and funny, and the blackface thing isn't even remotely offensive, IMO. The joke isn't on African Americans, it's on Kirk Lazerus, and the lengths he will go to stay in character, even when he knows they aren't making a movie anymore.
Thanks for commenting.

I'm pretty much envisioning Dante's Cove (http://www.amazon.com/Dantes-Cove-Rena-Riffel/dp/B000FZEU1A) with monks (i.e. awesome for it's sheer, breathtaking, OTT soap opera badness).

Date: 2008-08-19 03:03 am (UTC)And like ennui said, the fake trailers were some of the best things.
I also liked the "rapper" type guy's storyline and the young actor whose name I also conveniently forget, at one point he was all "It was in the book- you read that right? Okay, well it is essentially the same as the version in the script...you didn't read that either did you?" *rest of cast blank faced*

Date: 2008-08-19 04:16 am (UTC)I didn't drink that night, but you're probably right - Tropic Thunder after a few shots would be fabulous! But I drank coffee instead. Tony would approve.
Thank you.

I love Kiss Kiss too, and I'm really really looking forward to Tropic Thunder XD
