“Hello Control.”
Control looked up from his desk and smiled. “Oh, hello Tony! It’s so very nice to see you.”
“That’s very nice of you to say, Control,” Tony said with a shy smile.
“Not at all, Tony. It’s always very nice to see you, today especially.”
“Oh? Is that because my visit to your office has given you an excuse to take a short break from the paperwork that you’ve been filling out all morning?” Tony asked. “Or is it because I have brought you a cup of morning coffee?”
“Well,” Control replied, folding his hands on his desk, “those are two of the reasons that I am happy to see you, Tony. Certainly I was glad to get a brief break from altering the budget to allow for an adequate supply of Styrofoam cups for the office, and it’s hard not to be cheered by a cup of your lovely coffee, but today, there’s a third reason.”
“Gosh, Control. I wonder what that reason could be.” Tony tugged on the sleeves of his ill-fitting grey suit and wondered.
“It’s very simple,” Control said, “I’m glad to see you because today is your birthday.”
“Why so it is, Control!” Tony remarked. “I hadn’t expected anyone to remember. I should have known better than to think that any detail could escape your steel trap mind, Control.”
“That’s true,” Control said, nodding. “But I don’t need a steel trap mind to remember the birthday of my favorite agent.” Opening a drawer in his desk, Control pulled out a small rectangular box, wrapped in a pretty blue paper. “Happy birthday, Tony.”
“Oh, Control! You didn’t need to do this for me!” Tony tore into the wrapping paper. “What a lovely white box!”
“The gift is in the box, Tony,” Control said helpfully.
“Hmm…that does make sense.” Tony opened the box, and stared into it. “It’s a pen! Why thank you, Control. It’s quite a pretty pen.”
“It’s more than just a pen,” Control said. “If you push the small button on the side of the pen, it plays a message. Go on and have a listen.”
Tony pressed the grey button. For a moment, there was only silence. Then, in Control’s even voice, he heard, “Have a very happy birthday, Tony.”
“I will,” Tony said to his pen. “I’m sure I will, thanks to you, Control.” Placing the pen very carefully back in its box, Tony added, “This really was a most thoughtful gift,
Control. Now, it will be as if I am carrying you around with me all day.” He quickly blushed, realizing what a silly sentiment that was.
“That’s a nice thought, Tony. I do very much enjoy when we’re together.”
“Yes,” Tony agreed.
Control paused, considering his next words. “Perhaps it would be nice for us to be together more often.”
“Yes, I suppose that you are right.”
“Hmm…I was just thinking, Tony, that you might like to go to dinner with me tonight.”
“That would be lovely, Control!” Tony said.
“Because it’s your birthday,” Control added.
“Yes.”
“And birthdays are days to be celebrated.”
“That’s very true.”
They both stared silently at each other for a moment. Control finally broke the silence. “Thank you very much for bringing me my coffee, Tony, but I’m afraid that I’m going to have to return to my paper work.” He chose a page from the top of the stack. “I’m looking forward to seeing you again tonight. Come back to my office after six, and we can go to dinner just as soon as I’ve finished feeding the pigeons.”
“I will, Control, thank you very much. I hope that your paperwork goes well. See you tonight!” Tony shut the door behind him, and walked down the hall with a big smile on his face. A pen and dinner with Control! He couldn’t have asked for a better birthday gift.
Certainly it was a gift well worth not informing Control that his birthday was actually tomorrow.

Little hearts? Lots of fun! Just type this: & hearts ;
without the spaces after the ampersand and before the semicolon. Then you can make them in color by doing this:
around the heart notation. You can use any of the basic color words or the actual hexidecimal number for the color. :)

Hugs and kisses right back atcha, babe, I am SO excited for our visit! Let's see, weather - well, it's usually sort of gray and overcast and cool in the mornings, and then it clears up and is sunny by afternoon, cooling down again in the evening. Some days it never clears up and some days it starts out sunny and stays that way. Temps mostly in the 60s and 70s, maybe reaching the 80s if we're lucky. So I'd say mostly pack jeans and t-shirts, plus a couple of sweatshirts or a sweater/light jacket - some light layer to keep you warm in the mornings and evenings. EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! So exciting!!!!!!
