Hi all,

Took the nephew to see “Kung Fu Panda” yesterday, and I surprised myself by really enjoying it.

The story was pretty thin and predictable (believe in yourself and never quit! Anything is possible!), and the characters weren’t very well developed, but the animation on the fight scenes was GORGEOUS! My inner 12 year old was jumping up and down watching a snow leopard take on 1,000 Rhino prison guards, and an epic battle on a rope bridge (while a praying mantis holds on to one end of the snapped rope). And the scene where Po the Panda (Jack Black) and Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) fight for the final dumpling is worth the ticket, IMO. I laughed and laughed.

I’m a person willing to meet a movie on its level, and if that level is a bunch of fuzzy creatures kicking ass while spouting fortune cookie clichés, I’m fine with that. Just make sure it’s FUN. And it was. Plus, it scored high with my nephew, so take your kids. Just be sure to explain to them afterwards that that was in NO way an accurate portrayal of Chinese culture. It’s probably best to pretend that it’s actually set in the China section of Epcot center.

And, amazingly, in a Jack Black movie for kids, about an overweight panda, there was not a single fart joke. I couldn’t believe it, but it’s true.
